Why you Should have Break-down Cover!

We always have customers asking us the same questions about breakdown cover. Why is it important? We can’t stress enough here at Big Motoring World how important it is to have breakdown cover on your vehicle.

You will only really appreciate how important breakdown cover is when you’re sitting on the side of a busy road or a motorway with no way of getting help or assistance. Breakdown cover will give you that piece of mind that no matter what problem your car has, someone will be out to recover you or fix your car at the roadside.

Cars are very technical just like any other machine, there can be 100 different things that can cause your vehicle to stop functioning. Having breakdown cover offers you that sense of security you need while on the road. No matter how old your vehicle is it is still be liable to break down.

Not only is breakdown cover essential so you don’t have the massive fee to pay when your car is recovered, it is also recommended for your own safety. Being stuck on the hard shoulder of a motorway is one of the worst experiences anyone can have. Vehicles travelling past you at a very high speed can be very dangerous! Having breakdown cover is essential so you know someone is only a phone call away and can have your problem sorted in a short amount of time is priceless. If your vehicle can not be fixed at the roadside, most breakdown companies offer the ability to take you wherever you need to be.

When purchasing breakdown cover it is important to remember that every policy is different, different providers offer different benefits and different levels of cover. Make sure you read through the policy carefully, and make sure it covers everything you need.

To view a wide option of breakdown cover, the companies we would advise you to look on are price comparison websites such as; http://www.comparethemarket.com  and http://www.moneysupermarket.com. They will search over 50 different breakdown policies for you, this will save you a lot of time, and hopefully a lot of money.

It’s important to realise the importance of breakdown cover and remember that help is available from a host of breakdown insurance companies.

    NO More Write-offs!!!!

    Hi Bloggers,

Auto-Trade has recently announced its new plans to highlight and car being sold on its website which has been involved in a category C or D insurance write off. This follows an agreement to use Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register data in an automated process on all dealers advertised stock.

All cars involved in this will be highlighted with a yellow circle displaying either the letter C or D, the icon will be present on every page which is listing the car, and this will include searches via a mobile device. The prominent icon will also benefit consumers, delivering a message of caution enabling them to make a fully informed decision about the vehicle they intend to buy. Even though category C or D write-offs are not necessarily unsafe or beyond repair Auto-Trader said it is encouraging dealers to provide as much information as they can about the cars condition.

Many buyers are always unclear about what each category means so the icon can be hovered over to reveal further information. When the term ‘’written off’’ is applied to cars that suffer accident damage which are not repaired at an insurance company’s expense. Each car is assigned a rating from A to D. Category A and B cars are destined only for scrap, the accident damage being so severe that they are deemed unsafe to be allowed back on the road. Auto-Trader will not list category A or B anywhere on their site. Category C write-offs can return to the road following repairs to significant damage, however the cost to repair is more that the value of the care, so is not economically viable for the insurer. Category D write-offs have also suffered damage and, albeit repairs won’t exceed the car’s value, the total costs in settling a claim are deemed excessively high.

Mercedes-Benz Released images of the Interior for the New AMG GT Coupe!!

    Hi Bloggers,

Mercedes-Benz has released the first ever official images of its new AMG GT coupe interior. The AMG GT is likely to be shown in production form at the Paris Motor Show in early October before being released in showrooms later in the year or early 2015. The vehicle is likely to cost about £80,000 and replaces the larger and more expensive SLS in Mercedes line-up. It has a new twin-turbocharged 4.0litre V8 engine developing about 500bhp.

The official pictures of the car reveal are what Mercedes describe as ‘’modern luxury’’. It is dominated by four central air vents and a wide centre console, with the eight round controls for the AMG Drive Systems laid out to resemble a V8 engine when looked at from above.

Mercedes describes the interior has an exclusive look and feel, featuring the finest materials. Certainly the red leather shown in the images looks exquisite, while the AMG logo embossed in the leather of the centre console is a unique touch.

The technological substance of the Mercedes-AMG GT underscored Mercedes high aspirations with regard to driving dynamics, agility and sportiness. The new Mercedes-AMG GT shows that Mercedes will be positioning AMG more vehemently and aggressively than to date as a dynamic sports car brand.

Government urged to scrap CCTV parking camera ban

    Hi Bloggers,

Local authorities are being urged to scrap plans to ban CCTV cameras used to enforce parking rules. The Local Government Association said banning CCTV would not reduce tickets but would put schoolchildren and other vulnerable pedestrians at risk. Although a local government minister said the cameras are an excuse to raise money by issuing fines on an ‘’industrial scale’’.

Parking CCTV cameras are used to tackle dangerous parking outside schools, prevent motorists illegally blocking driveways, loading bays and bus lanes, and to stop people posing a risk to pedestrians by driving along and parking on pavements.

Local Government Association (LGA) argues that the cameras serve as a deterrent especially outside schools. Without these cameras children and people with disabilities could be at an increased danger.

Mini takes aim at VW Golf with larger Clubman theory!

    Hi Bloggers,

Close creation-prepared notion stretches the quirky Clubman to provide a more classic premium to the Mini of the likes of the VW Golf and Audi A3.

MINI has revealed aspects of a five-door Clubman concept that clearly signposts the corporation’s goal to stretch the far-out estate variation of its own hatchback to battle with larger cars like the VW Golf and Audi A3. The concept, expected to be unveiled in the Geneva motor show next week, also shows a step-up in inside quality  in the hatchback.

The style is unlikely to change much from the generation variation due early next year. Mini has a background of getting its idea cars to generations largely unaltered. Income of the present Clubman have lagged behind more well-known MINI variations with buyers put off from the embarrassing rear-hinged half door that gave access to the rear seats. The theory yet keeps the dual side-hinged rear doors that have been a nod to the first MINI estate.

The Geneva car is a complete 260mm longer compared to the present Clubman, using it over four meters in length to calculate 4223mm, almost the same length as the VW Golf.

Looks wise the Clubman theory wears the exact same face as the just launched MINI hatchback with all the bumper incorporated into the grille. Nevertheless there is a greater use of chrome highlights to supply the Clubman what MINI calls a more distinctive appeal. This extends to the door handles in the side and back and also the edging of the large rear light unit.

The new Clubman will be sold alongside a five-door version of the Mini hatchback that’ll beat the larger car to the showrooms with an on-sale date late this year. Expect Clubman engines to match those of the standard hatchback, including the new 134bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit.

Mercedes tackles BMW X6 with coupe version of ML-Class

    Hi Bloggers,

Mercedes is adding some style to its SUV line-up, the SUV coupe previews a production car likely to be badged MLC and set to rival BMWs X6. The single official images of the Mercedes was revealed by the CEO Dr Dieter Zetsche at the Annual Shareholder’s meeting, although the car will make its public debut appearance at the Beijing Motor Show later this month.

We think there will be a great deal of potential for Mercedes-Benz in the combination of the coupe and SUV.

An official Mercedes release also stated that ‘’the sporty styled coupe study with the added value of an SUV provides a realistic glimpse of a series-production vehicle expected next year, which will boast very dynamic handling.’’

From the image you can see the wide front grille, narrow headlights and converging creases on the flanks pick up nearly from the GLA-class. The roofline which plunges dramatically towards the rear of the car, is the talking point here though.
We will keep you updated with more information and images when the Concept Coupe SUV makes it debut in China.

The almighty force of the BMW X4!

    Hello bloggers,

We love a good car here at Big Motoring World so it goes without saying that the BMW X4 is no exception to the rule.

The idea behind the X4 was to merge two elements most commonly known for BMW’S. The power of the X-Drive and the sleek curves of the CoupĂ©.

With leather interior, sports functions and a twin power turbo engine, I think it’s safe to say that the X4 is something special.

With the first X4 just having been released they are due to go on sale from 12th July 2014! Will you be in first in the queue?

Brand NEW Mercedes due in 2019!

    Hi Bloggers,

The new Mercedes SL drop-top due in 2019. Mercedes is on a mission to improve the efficiency of its new models, both in terms of the CO2 they emit and the speed at which they can be built. The new Mercedes SL roadster will get an advanced new platform shared with the new SLK. We think this is an amazing step for Mercedes and we look forward to seeing the end result!

It allows cars like the A-Class, CLA and GLA all to be built on the same lines, which simplifies the production process and gives Mercedes greater flexibility. Mercedes now plan to launch a third architecture that will underpin both the new SL and the SLK replacements. The Mercedes SL currently has its own chassis platform, which will switch to the new modular sports car architecture by the end of the decade.

Mercedes are currently developing this in Germany, this means the cars will share certain elements like the front bulkhead and parts of the suspension, and this means all the cars using this chassis will be built in the same factory in Bremen. Although the platform will allow the length, width, height and wheelbases to be different.

    Run Flat Tyres.

    Hello bloggers,

A question we get asked quite frequently is: "What are run flat tyres?"
Well in this blog we plan to answer your question.

    What are run flats?
Run flats tyres are used by prestige car manufactures such as BMW and Mercedes on their more recent models of cars. The run flat tyre is designed to resist deflation after encoring a puncture. This enables the drive to drive for a short distance, at a moderate speed to the next garage to have the tyre replaced.

    How do run flats work?
Inside the tyre, there is a thickened rubber side-wall. If the tyre becomes punctured the rubber side-wall is designed to support the weight of the vehicle enabling the vehicle to continue in motion for up to 50 miles at 50 miles per hour. If the vehicle is however driven at a faster speed for a longer distance irreparable damage can be done to the tyre- so take it easy!

Although run flat tyres are not a standard specification on BMWs and Mercedes they are handy to have. If your vehicle has not got run flat tyres, we suggest opting for a spare wheel or carrying a foam kit. This will enable to inflate the tyres after a puncture so you can get your vehicle to a garage.

Do you think it’s worth having run flat tyres on your vehicle? Let us know your thoughts!

Why it is Important to have your Vehicle Serviced!!

    Hi Bloggers,

The servicing schedule is about insuring the engine is running correctly, that there is no problems with the brakes, that the tyres are correctly inflated and the filters are changed regularly. If you service your car properly and the adjustments carried out then the engine will run efficiently, there will be fewer problems with fuel consumptions. Having your car serviced regularly is also important for the warranty.
How often should your car be service?
It‘s necessary to have your car serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals. Although it is better if your car is service more frequently because this ensures that the brakes, steering and the suspension is all looked after more carefully.

What should be included in a service?
All the safety related items should be covered this will include; the brakes, suspension, the tyres, the tyre pressure, lighting, windscreen wipers. Then secondary to those are the normal everyday things that you would expect in your service such as the replacement of oil, oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, fuel filter, as per the manufacturers schedule.

9 Simple steps to check the fluids in your car!!!

    Hi Bloggers,

    1.       Your owner’s manual tells you when fluids must be checked, but this is only the minimum to keep your warranty in check.

    2.       Your car will need to be parked on a flat surface and your engine will need to be cooled down.

    3.       Open the hood of your vehicle.

    4.       Check the motor oil: Make sure your car had cooled down for at least an hour or so, so that the oil has drained down so you do not get a false reading. Locate the oil dipstick and remove from its opening. Use a paper towel or rag to wipe the dipstick clean so that you will have a clear reading. Insert the dipstick into its opening and push it firmly all the way back, as far as it will go. Pull it out all the way, this time reading the oil level. When you are done, replace the dipstick back in its opening.

    ·         The dipstick will have markings on it indicating a range for acceptable oil level. If your oil level is too low, appropriate motor oil must be added before the car can be driven

    5.       Check transmission fluid (only on automatic): This is usually done with the engine running and fully warmed up, either in neutral or parked, depending on the make and model. As with the oil locate it pull it out, wipe it off push it all the way back in to the bottom of its travel, then pull it out and read the level. Again look for a level between the two marks on the dipstick.

    ·         Transmission fluid is reddish because it’s reasonably fresh, it does not need to be changed as frequently as oil, but it does occasionally need changing. If the transmission fluid looks brown, black or burnt or its appearance suggests that it didn’t come out of a bottle lately, consider replacing it.

    6.       Check the brake fluid: Check your manual for the location, or look around for a plastic reservoir labelled brake fluid. Wipe the dirt off the outside, if you need to. It might help to push your car gently so that the fluid level moves a bit. If you still can’t see it, take the cap off and look in.

    ·          Cars should not consume brake fluid. Low brake fluid can indicate either a leak in the brake line or worn brake surfaces. If your brake fluid is low have your car checked to find out why. If your vehicle has low brake fluid or leaking brake fluid your car could fail to stop.

    7.       Check the power steering fluid:  This will generally also be a plastic reservoir. Read through the walls as you did with the brake fluid, by opening the lid and pouring more of an appropriate power steering fluid in. there may be two pairs of lines, one for a hot engine and one for a cold engine. Read the one that is appropriate to the current condition of your car.

    8.       Check the coolant: Make sure the engine has cooled down, otherwise scalding water could spray out as you open the reservoir. The coolant will most likely be located in the reservoir up front near the radiator.

    ·         Cars are designed to operate with antifreeze as coolant, not water. Antifreeze is a mixture that has a lower freezing point, and a higher boiling point than water. If you need to replace your coolant make sure you purchase the right stuff.

    ·         Make sure you read the label on the antifreeze. Some formulations are intended to be mixed half and half with water, others need to be poured in at full strength.

    9.       Check windshield washer fluid: Wiper fluid won’t affect the performance of your car. There is no harm in having washer fluid low, you will naturally use this up as you drive and clean your windshield. If you are expecting very cold weather, be sure to use washer fluid that won’t freeze in low temperature.
