Common Wealth Games Background and Update (Day 1-Day 7)

The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games, has a unique place in sporting history.

The first games were held in 1930 in Hamilton; Canada, where 11 countries were involved. In total 400 athletes were sent from the 11 countries, and took part in six sports and 59 events. Since then, the Games have been held every four years (except for 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War).

The event has seen many changes, with the major one being its name. From 1930 to 1950 the Games were known as the “British Empire Games”. Then, from 1954 until 1966 they were called the “British Empire and Commonwealth Games”. From 1970 until 1974, they took the title of the “British Commonwealth Games”. Finally, at the 1978 Games in Edmonton, Canada this multi-sport event changed its name to the “Commonwealth Games.”

The Commonwealth Games is here to show off people’s ability and talents that they have been training up and making stronger from a young age. These athletes train to be the best at what they do. So the commonwealth games provides some of these athletes the chance to be able to achieve and live their dreams of being able to compete in this prestigious event.

The New Mercedes Actros: ‘Fleet Truck of the Year 2014’

The Mercedes-Benz new Actros has been voted ‘Fleet Truck of the Year’ at the prestigious Motor Transport Awards 2014.

The award was judged by an independent panel of experienced industry professionals. The Actros caught the judge’s eye, and was singled out due to its low full consumption which allows the trucks to do more mpg, lowers the cost of ownership (cheap to run), unrivalled driver comfort, and excellent parts and service support through a highly focused dealer network. If anything goes wrong with mechanical or technical problems it will be solved quickly.

Since the launch in early 2012, the new Actros has found favour with countless fleets across the UK and this award recognises that Mercedes is delivering a range of vehicles and services that their customers can both rely on and value.

We at Big Motoring World would like to join in on congratulating Mercedes with this big achievement and wish them all the best for the future with the Actros and any other projects.

2015 BMW X6 tuning program by Lumma Design

Lumma design, have revelled their tuning details for the new F16 2015 BMW X6.

The program for aftermarket X6 will include a wide body kit, which will incorporate a carbon fibre front lip and carbon fibre inserts that can be found on the side air vents. At the back of the X6 you will find a rear spoiler and a Lumma redesigned bumper with carbon fibre diffusers housing the four exhaust pipes.

A new carbon fibre bonnet has been fitted with a centrally mounted air vent.

If you own an XDrive 50i which originally comes with a V8 4.4litre twin-turbo engine, there is now an upgrade which will tune the eight-cylinder engine from 450 PS (330 kW) to around 590 PS (434 kW). This will allow the new Lumma modified and tuned X6 to reach a top speed of 183mph.

Other upgrades include larger 22 inch alloys with Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires, sport seats with side support and built in airbags, velour floor mats and aluminium pedals.

So if you own a BMW X6 and are looking to have a change, look no further!

The fabulous X2 launching in 2017

BMW are launching the long-time rumoured X2 which is due to go on sale some time in 2017.

The X2 will underpin the new Mini, 2 Series Active Tourer and not forgetting the 2016 BMW X1. The X2 will hold some features of these cars such as the choice of having it with front wheel drive or four-wheel-drive.

The design of this new BMW is aiming to combine elegance and fiery looks to create a sharp but easy on the eye exterior view.  The design will include a slopping roof-line, beefed up wheel arches, as well as trying to add in rounded and narrowed headlights and a new enlarged double kidney grill.

The X2’s power will come from a large range of engines, three and four-cylinder. At smaller end of the range you can find the 1.5 litre turbo petrol, and at the top end you will find a performance X2, housing a 2.0 litre four-cylinder, 300bhp monster.

This top range model is set to rival the Audi RS Q3 and the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG.

The future for this car is very bright already, but BMW are going above and beyond to produce a plug-in hybrid version of this car, which is expected to achieve an astonishing 100mpg plus.

So, don’t miss this up and coming opportunity to be able to own one of these great machines! Keep an eye out for the date that it goes on sale, and don’t hold back when it does!!

BMWs 100th Birthday Present

Auto Motor and Sport is reporting on a future brand new BMW i9, scheduled to be launched in 2016. BMW will be celebrating 100 years of production of cars and a potential supercar has been looming for the last few years.

The BMW i9 will use the i8’s plug-in hybrid system, but will have more power, a bigger and more intimidating looking body. It will also have a larger and more powerful six-cylinder engine instead of the i8’s, 1.5 litre, three-cylinder engine.

This in turn will allow the i9 to be able to go quicker than the top speed of the BMW i8(155mph), as well as have quicker acceleration. The i8 has been recorded to go from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, whereas the i9 is said to get to 60 in under 4 seconds.

In the i9, there will be a considerably bigger electric battery, which will create more than the 131bhp you will find in the i8, partially due to the new upgraded electric power train.

However, the lightweight materials and construction remain, BMW's top priority so if it comes to life, expect the i9 to feature even more carbon fibre and aluminium parts. The i9 will retain the perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

We cannot wait to see this new i9, with all its new interior as well as exterior designs. The i9 will defiantly be a perfect 100th birthday present for BMW.

“I am the possible…”

Nothing sells us a product like its advert and we have to say,  the advert for the BMW i8 is rather spectacular.

With its sleek, futuristic design and staggeringly low running costs (due to it being so economical) it’s easy to see why the car is so sought after.

Hitting the UK market at £99,125 it may cause a bit of a hole in the ol’ savings account but with a 1.5 litre engine as well as two electric motors this little pocket-rocket is capable of a top speed of 155mph. With 357bhp it means the car can go from 0-60mph in no more than 4.4 seconds- pretty impressive, I think you’ll agree.

While you decide if you’d quite like to own this futuristic driving machine have a look at the advert for it and see what you think.

BMW M2

BMW have hinted at a new M2 that will start being produced in November 2015 and go on sale from March 2016. If all goes to plan BMW will be announcing its arrival in summer 2015 which will be swiftly followed by a press test drive.

This BMW is based roughly on the M235i racing car with its exterior design feature. The unique designing starts with the aggressive front fascia and the rear spoiler, and to get rid of the waste products the signature M four-exhaust pipes.

The M2 is most likely going to be using the new chassis technology found in the M3 and M4.

The BMW M2 prototype was housing an updated version of the N55 twin power 3.0 litre engine, and is going to be able to run with not only a manual or automatic transmission, but with both. The engine is predicted to turn out around 360-380bhp which is more than the current M235i (340).

The M2 is expected to surpass the highly listed 1M. The M2 should deliver amazing dynamics and handling and should be a great competitor to even the most recognised and power filled M3 and M4.

The next generation Mini John Cooper Works

The new Mini John Cooper Works will be launched at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The JCW model will be pulled along by an all-new 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engine, which will generate around 230bhp and about 258 lb-ft of torque.

The new 2.0 litre engine is replacing the old turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder direct-injection unit, which produces 215bhp.

The new Mini John Cooper Works will feature a new six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, which will also be installed in the new Mini Cooper S hatchback.

It’s fair to say that we, at big motoring world, can’t wait to get our hands on one.

The New Mercedes-AMG GT

The new Mercedes AMG is ready for its unveiling this autumn. This AMG GT monster is almost guaranteed to put a smile on any sports car fan, with its apparent breath-taking design and supreme handling. This brute of a car has been built to turn people’s dreams into reality.

The technological strive of the new Mercedes-AMG GT, outlines the high aspirations Mercedes have, about the driving experience, agility, sportiness and overall atmosphere that they want customers to feel, when they are around or in this unique and special creation.

The new AMG GT is the second sports car that has been fully developed by the      Mercedes-AMG team. One of the many design features that this has brought to this new car is the, AMG drive unit, which has brought the centre console to life. This has been achieved by exquisitely arranging 8 buttons in a V shape, which represents the V8 engine that is lurking under its bonnet.

The BMW Z5

The BMW Z5 is a car that is hoping to hit the showrooms by 2017. The Z5 will have a font mounted engine but will be more centrally mounted in the car for better weight distribution across the axles.

The car is going to be made with lightweight materials with a target weight for 3300lbs. The Z5 will be a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a three stage power system.

The engine will house a ZF 6-speed manual gearbox, or an 8-speed automatic.

There are rumours going around that there could be an Z5M coming out soon after which would contain a 425-hp turbo six, which is currently being housed, under the bonnet of the new 2015 M3 and M4.

Germany do it again... Mercedes S65 AMG!

As much as we hate to admit it, I think we all knew that England’s chances of winning the World Cup were pretty thin and yesterday it all came to ahead with Germany coming out on top (congratulations by the way!).

But, Germany are on top for more reasons than one with the release of the Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe.

This car boats an impressive 630bhp (break horsepower) as well as a seven speed automatic gearbox!
There are three models available: efficiency, sport and manual. All of which have a 6.0 litter, twin turbo V12 engine that's capable of doing 0 – 62MPH in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 155MPH. I think you’ll agree that’s pretty impressive!

With the Mercedes S65 AMG sitting at the top of the S-Class tree we will be the first to say we can’t wait to get our hands on one and take it for a test drive!

What do you think of this rather remarkable machine? Let us know by  leaving a comment below, tweet us @BigMotoring or post on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BigMotoringWorld.

Mercedes-Benz Tests New C-Class Cabrio

Mercedes Benz is testing a brand new body design of the recent C Class generation, the convertible version.

Word is out that the new Mercedes Benz C Class Cabrio will use the exact same underpinnings as its four door sedan brother , which includes the exact same layout, with the exception of the roof obviously, the exact same inside, identical "gadgets" and last, but maybe not least, the exact same engine line-up. As the product is predicted to be revealed throughout the 2014 Paris Motor Show, additional information on the variant of the C Class are restricted for the second and will be declared likely this autumn.

Spy photographers have captured the Mercedes Benz C Class Cabrio on camera while it had been tested out. It seems as the German car giant will not be renaming it as it did with the senior brother, the CLK, which is generally known as the E-Class Cabrio. The car will compete with variants of the BMW 2 Series and the Audi A-3, and it needs to be quite a great option for motorists in the premium market, who are not huge fans of Audi and BMW.

We at Big Motoring World are looking forward to seeing the interior shots of this new addition to the Mercedes family. Going by what we have seen from the new Mercedes models, one thing is for sure- the interior will look and feel plush.

BMW to build X1 M??

BMW have denied for years and years that there would be an X1 M sport car. As it stands at the moment they haven’t confirmed that there will be one but they failed to deny the recent rumours of the M performance X1.

According to Jörg Bartels, the M performance car sales boss; BMW are constantly looking through the model ranges to see which vehicles fit their strategy and can therefore be developed into a performance car (M Sport).

“I will say again what the boss of BMW M has stated in the past – all BMWs are eligible for an M model. We will see how Audi and Mercedes go with that.” This is what Bartels had to say about the concept of a BMW X1M.

A performance version of the X1 would compete directly with the Audi RS Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG. So, we’ll keep an eye out for it! What do you think Is this the next big thing for BMW?

BMW’s iDrive system is the one to have…

A recent test was carried out in Europe in relation to the users experience when using a vehicles computerised systems and it appears that BMW’s iDrive system came out on top!
BMW’s iDrive system was given a score of 4.3 out of 6.0.

The test is marked on the users overall opinion on how easy they find it to learn how to use the functionality of the system, how it looks and if the user is inspired to learn and do more with it.

BMW’s iDrive system was tested along with 14 other brands in Germany, Italy, USA and Japan.

In Germany and Italy BMW came out on top followed by Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Opel. In the USA Nissan came in top followed by a few other brands (including BMW). Lexus was the brand that won the race in Japan swiftly followed by  Toyota and Nissan.

So… BMW’s iDrive is the one to have in Germany and Italy but have you had a chance to use one? How do you rate their systems? Let us know by

BMW to open a factory in Mexico?

It is to be revealed this week (July 3rd) if BMW are to open another production factory in Mexico.
This drastic news has said to be in aid of the firm keeping up with the demand for their premium cars.

The news of the new factory opening comes pretty soon after (days after in fact) BMWs competitor; Daimler (Mercedes-Benz), announced they too will be opening a production factory in Mexico.

Why Mexico you ask? Simple, to keep costs down. Although the initial start-up cost may be high Mexico offers reduced labour costs in comparison to Germany and the USA. Also, by producing the cars in Mexico BMW will not have to incur some of the currency and tariff costs that eat into their profits.

BMW have also suggested that they are to invest a further $1 billion in to their factory in South Carolina in order to expand and increase capacity by 50%.

So, it looks like there will be quite a few more BMW’s on our roads. What do you think?
