Auto Motor and
Sport is reporting on a future
brand new BMW i9,
scheduled to be launched in 2016. BMW will be celebrating 100 years of
production of cars and a potential supercar has been looming for the last few
years.
The BMW i9
will use the i8’s plug-in hybrid system, but will have more power, a bigger and
more intimidating looking body. It will also have a larger and more powerful six-cylinder
engine instead of the i8’s, 1.5 litre, three-cylinder engine.
This in turn
will allow the i9 to be able to go quicker than the top speed of the BMW i8(155mph), as well as have quicker acceleration. The i8 has been recorded to go
from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, whereas the i9 is said to get to 60 in under 4
seconds.
In the i9,
there will be a considerably bigger electric battery, which will create more
than the 131bhp you will find in the i8, partially due to the new upgraded
electric power train.
However, the lightweight
materials and construction remain, BMW's top priority so if it comes to life,
expect the i9 to feature even more carbon fibre and aluminium parts. The i9
will retain the perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
We cannot
wait to see this new i9, with all its new interior as well as exterior designs.
The i9 will defiantly be a perfect 100th birthday present for BMW.
