Common Wealth Games Background and Update (Day 1-Day 7)

The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games, has a unique place in sporting history.

The first games were held in 1930 in Hamilton; Canada, where 11 countries were involved. In total 400 athletes were sent from the 11 countries, and took part in six sports and 59 events. Since then, the Games have been held every four years (except for 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War).

The event has seen many changes, with the major one being its name. From 1930 to 1950 the Games were known as the “British Empire Games”. Then, from 1954 until 1966 they were called the “British Empire and Commonwealth Games”. From 1970 until 1974, they took the title of the “British Commonwealth Games”. Finally, at the 1978 Games in Edmonton, Canada this multi-sport event changed its name to the “Commonwealth Games.”

The Commonwealth Games is here to show off people’s ability and talents that they have been training up and making stronger from a young age. These athletes train to be the best at what they do. So the commonwealth games provides some of these athletes the chance to be able to achieve and live their dreams of being able to compete in this prestigious event.

The NEW Mercedes C Class

The C Class...

"Less of a sports car and more of a smaller S class…"

The new Mercedes C class is due to arrive in the UK THIS MONTH!!

Mercedes have said to have moved away from the whole sports car feel and have opted for style and comfort similar to the S class.

With four-link suspension and optional full air suspension, the new C class, swallows up the road and spits it back out again with very little turbulence. From other reviews, it has also been brought to light that the new C class is quieter too. With the engine being better subdued, even when the engine is put under pressure, it glides along the road with less of a roar that you’d expect; especially for a car with 204bhp!

The new C Class is designed to be an automatic, 2.1 litter diesel car with a 0 to 62mph in 6.6 seconds. Impressive I think you’ll agree!  With aspects stolen from the E Class to add that touch of elegance it’s shaping up to make waves in the prestige car realm.

With the arrival date set to be later this June and prices starting from £26,855, we can’t wait to get our hand on one and take it for a spin!

Gold at Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics!

Hello all,

Even if you haven’t been following the Winter Olympic religiously or with any interest at all, we’re still sure you would have heard of our gold medal win!

Lizzy is a British skeleton racer who joined the team in 2010 and has now managed to grab gold for Team GB! Do you know what the best bit is? She’s from Kent!

Could we be any prouder?

Congratulations Elizabeth!

And seeing as we’re already on a roll we've also been awarded bronze. Snowboarder Jenny Jones has pulled in our first bronze medal of the winter Olympics.

Congratulations Jenny!

Weather Warnings!

Hello Bloggers,

As you’re probably aware, the weather isn't the best and there are weather warnings being issued across the board- not the best way to start the New Year is it?

Kent is being issued with a weather warning for high-force winds and rain! We just wanted to say, drive carefully if you’re out and about and here are a few tips to help you get from A to B safely:

1)      Keep both hands on the wheel at all times- Keeping two hands on the steering wheel at all times will help you keep the car steady and counteract any gusts that push your car off course.

2)      If they get too close, fall back- I think we all do it, when we want to change lanes a see a gap that just might be big enough for our car we pull into it. In strong winds or with wet conditions, cars can be blown/thrown into your path. Stay alert and fall back, leave enough room for reaction time.

3)      Watch out for flying debris- There may be twigs, branches and loose litter in the roads that have blown off. If the wind is strong enough there could be all sorts blowing about on the roads. Drive at a slower, safer speed and keep your eyes peeled!

4)      Always carry a mobile phone- In-case there is an emergency, it is always wise to have a (fully charged) mobile phone to call for help.

Drive safe and have a great weekend!

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!

Hello Bloggers,

We hope you've enjoyed your festivities so far! Seeing as it is the last day of 2013, we just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of our customers and visitors this year for their support.

We have made many changes to the business over 2013 with the opening of our Canterbury site in January, swiftly followed by the opening of Canterbury prestige in March.

In October we opened a new Snodland Service Centre, which not only plays home to our Big Assist, after-sales customer service team but also our new hand-out division. Also, we have finalised the plans, designs and construction of our expansion of our Addington site ready for the New Year.  We also won an award for the Best Used Car Dealer Website! So, weave had a great year and we hope you have too.

We look forward to providing quality cars and service to you all in 2014!

We wish you all the best and let us be the first to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We hope to see you soon,

Peter Waddell and the Big Motoring World Team.
