Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014!

Hello Bloggers,

We hope you've enjoyed your festivities so far! Seeing as it is the last day of 2013, we just wanted to say a quick thank you to all of our customers and visitors this year for their support.

We have made many changes to the business over 2013 with the opening of our Canterbury site in January, swiftly followed by the opening of Canterbury prestige in March.

In October we opened a new Snodland Service Centre, which not only plays home to our Big Assist, after-sales customer service team but also our new hand-out division. Also, we have finalised the plans, designs and construction of our expansion of our Addington site ready for the New Year.  We also won an award for the Best Used Car Dealer Website! So, weave had a great year and we hope you have too.

We look forward to providing quality cars and service to you all in 2014!

We wish you all the best and let us be the first to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We hope to see you soon,

Peter Waddell and the Big Motoring World Team.

Our expansion reaches its final stage!

Hello Bloggers,

As Christmas day draws ever closer, our building expansion enters its final phase ready for the New Year.
We've been quite keen to keep you all updated with its progress as it happens so, here is the latest on our Addington Expansion.

These are going to be the new training rooms. This is where our new staff members will be trained to ensure excellent customer service. Very swish I think you'd agree!

The stairwell is almost there, just one last lick of paint and a quick clean of the stairs and we’re ready for business.

Here is our main room. The reception desk is going to be going in as soon as the finishing touches have been added. The tables and chairs are in and ready to go.

This is the children’s play area. It has its own TV, already installed. All we need to do now, is to get the soft sofas, toys and games console- we’re up for a game!

The customer advisor's room is almost there. Their desks should be here soon! This will also play home to our dedicated call centre!

Here is another view of the main room with its tables and chairs. Looks bigger here doesn't it!

This is going to be the new disabled toilets with baby change.

Final touches being put in, you can even see our forecourt in the background!

These two room are private consultation rooms for customers where they can discuss their thoughts and ask any other questions to our customer advisor's.

We're really excited to open our new expansion in the New Y ear and we hope to see you there!

Goodbye Tax Disk

Hello Bloggers,

After 93 years of sitting in our window screens, George Osborne has announced that the tax disk is going to be axed in favour of an electronic system.

The tax disk was introduced in 1921 but the change of heart is said to be due to that tax disks are simply not needed any-more. Both the police and DVLA; when searching for your details, have everything (including all your tax disk details) registered online, so there is simply no reason to have a physical tax disk any-more.

Also, there are said to be plans to enable people to pay for their car tax weekly by direct debit if they cannot pay yearly or every six months. This will make things a whole lot easier!

The tax disk and payment changes are said to be coming into effect in October 2014!

Driving safely in the fog.

Hello Bloggers,

If you leave the house pretty early for work, the last few days you would have noticed the foggy and icy weather creeping in.
Although it’s not icy enough yet to affect the roads, the fog poses a bit more of a threat to our driving so, here are a few tips to help keep you safe while driving in the fog.

  1. Be aware of other drivers- This one is pretty simple, just be aware of other drivers on the road, especially the ones that have forgotten to switch their headlights on!
  2. Dipped Headlights- Keep your dipped headlights on at all times. This will increase visibility for you, and keep other drivers alert of your presence.
  3. Fog Light consistency- If there are street-lights on the road, the need for fog lights won’t be as great. However, wait for a long period of consistency in visibility before switching your fog lights off as switching them on and off all the time can cause confusion for other drivers.
  4. Use your window- At a junction; if you can’t see, wind your window down and listen for oncoming traffic. When you think it is safe, emerge from the junction slowly as this will give the other drivers a better chance of spotting your vehicle.
  5.  Three second rule- Fog can reduce driver’s visibility so make sure you increase the distance from the car in front by following the three second rule. (The three second rule: pick a stationery object, let the car in front pass this object. You should then be able to count three clear seconds before you pass the same stationery object)
  6. Mirror Check- Every time you slow down, check your mirrors to make yourself aware of the motorists around you.
  7. Safe speed- Drive at the speed that the road allows for. You don’t always need to drive at the speed limit, driving just below it will increase reaction time.
So there you have it, a few tips to help keep you safe in the fog!

Rocking around the Christmas tree!

Hello Bloggers,

With only 16 days until Christmas (not that we're counting), our Snodland service centre and everyone in it are getting into the festive spirit.

If you haven’t already been in to see the Christmas decorations at BIG, here they are.

Here is our mini Christmas tree in the Service Centre collection lounge.

Even the stairs got dressed for Christmas.
Reception is looking rather festive, I think you'll agree.

Looks like the staff have been good this year!

Big Motoring World Expansion | Fancy a tour?

Hello bloggers,

We have been keeping you updated with how our sites expansion has been coming along and we though it’s about time we gave you a sneak tour before the grand opening.
So, follow us!

Welcome to our reception. OK, so it’s still a work-in-progress but this is where you will be greeted by our friendly reception staff on your visit to BIG. You can pause for a coffee and a quick snack too if you like!

We know that viewing cars is not exactly the most exciting for children so we are having a dedicated children's play area built in with TV, games consoles and toys to keep the tykes amused while you browse at your leisure.  The image below shows the space that will be dedicated to the play area!

The board room. This is going to be our new board room where all of the important topics will be discussed. Very corporate, I think you'll agree.

The training room. As our company goes and gets even bigger, we have decided to build a dedicated training room for our new staff members. We aim to provide our customers with excellent customer service.

Here we have the automatic doors to make it wheel chair and push chair accessible.

Here we have what will be the disabled and baby changed toilets.

And here are a few more snaps of what can be expected at the opening.

We hope to see you all soon.

Until next time!

Medway Christmas lights get switched on!

Hello Bloggers,

With the festive season now upon us it’s time to get out the Christmas decorations and festive cheer.

So, that’s exactly what we; at Big Motoring world, decided to do. On November 29th, Medway turned on their Christmas lights ready for the festive season. Why are we interested in this you ask?

Alongside Medway Council and Heart FM Kent, we sponsored the spectacular event. The lights at Gillingham, Rochester, Strood and Chatham looked amazing as they were turned on and we’re very proud to have been part of the festive fun.  Here are some pictures of the lights as they were turned on for Christmas 2013.

Now Medway lights aren't just big, they’re MASSIVE!

Until next time bloggers!
