Big Motoring World Reviews Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo

The 2015 Tokyo Motor Show has paved the way for Mercedes-Benz’ new concept, the Vision Tokyo. Big Motoring World take a closer look into the model, and consider the potential of the latest Benz.

The Vision Tokyo has been described as a “trailblazing spatial experience” and features a lounge-like five-seat interior in a fully electric vehicle.

Concept and style

It’s capable of autonomous driving and continues the recent Merc concept, of which first came the Vision Ener-G-Force (2012). That was followed by the AMG Vision Gran Turismo (2013) and later the G-Code (2014).

The upward swinging side door allows for five passengers to enter the Vision Tokyo, greeted by an oval-shaped couch rather than conventional rows of seats. It’s designed so that with the car in autonomous driving mode they are able to relax or access the internet via large, wrap-around LED screens, without having to worry about the roads in front. The windshield is also unconventional, as it looks similar to a glazed cockpit of a speedboat rather than a car.

Power

The hydrogen fuel cell-powered electric drive system is based on the F-Cell plug-in hybrid driveline of the F 015 Luxury in Motion and combines the on-board generation of electricity with a compact high-voltage battery that can be charged contactless via induction.

Mercedes claims a range of 608 miles, 120 battery-powered and the rest from the electricity produced in the fuel cell. The Tokyo Show 2015 opened to the public at the end of October.

Big Motoring World reviews Mercedes apartments

For just £400 a night you could have the ultimate Mercedes-Benz themed bachelor pad. Big Motoring World reviews the latest developments from the German automakers.

Mercedes theme

The apartments are to be designed in Singapore next year, to look just like the inside of a car. And although they’re intended for short stays, they are over 1,000 sq/ft each and include a dining area, kitchen and two bedrooms.

The apartments are generally aimed at people who like to dot around different cities for regular stays and the TVs include information on the Mercedes brand, with the use of the Mercedes-Benz app. The Mercedes theme runs through the colours, furniture and accessories in the apartments.

Mercedes’ mission

Gorden Wagener, head of design at parent company Daimler, said: “As in our vehicles we have combined sensual surfaces and clean lines with intelligent high-tech functionality in order to create a perfectly conceived world of modern luxury that promotes wellbeing and relaxation.

“All the appointments display the hallmarks of Mercedes design. The overarching concept unites flowing lines with sculptural furniture, blending seamlessly into an organic whole.

“The designers at Mercedes-Benz Style have succeeded in recreating the ambience and spaciousness of a Mercedes car in luxury serviced apartments. Their goal is to give the occupants a sense of Mercedes-Benz exclusivity.”

Porsche are also involved in building projects, with one currently being constructed in both Miami and Frankfurt.

Big Motoring World reviews Mercedes-Maybach S 600

With the return of the Maybach badge, Mercedes-Benz are able to compete with the top end of the super-luxury car market. Big Motoring World reviews the Mercedes-Maybach S 600.
Longer, taller and even quieter than previous S-Class models, this is the pinnacle of the range which has undergone some major revisions.

Performance

Mercedes claim that this car is the quietest saloon on the roads, as the entire structure has been changed to enable the sound of the engine to be significantly decreased. The stiffer feel to the car is helped by foam-filled tyres which quieten the car on the move.

There is an overall feel of serenity in this model, with luxury feel across the model. There has been an increase in space for the interior, with 207mm of length and height added to the model. The seats not only recline, but also give massages and can change in heat on demand. Re-profiled rear doors and standard window blinds increase an element of privacy in the cabin.

The driver’s voice can also be projected into the back through the speakers with subtle amplification so you won’t even need to raise your voice. And with such a quiet car, the 1,540-watt 24-speaker Burmester sound system gives an incredible sound in the cabin.

Power

The luxury does add around 120kg of weight to the car, but this is counterbalanced with the S 600’s 6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine having 522bhp and 830Nm of torque. This means that it remains competitively quick, reaching 62mph in just under five seconds. Magic Body Control keeps it a smooth journey along the road, as the car adapts to lumps and bumps on the road.
The specification and technology make this car worth every penny of the £165,700 starting price.

Big Motoring World reviews a Classic: Mercedes W123

Reliability is engraved into Mercedes tradition, and that all began in 1976 with the release of the Mercedes W123. Big Motoring World reviews the classic Mercedes and the effects it’s had on the brand to present day.

Style

Smooth and muted, the car wasn’t on the flashy side yet still looked stylish and futuristic at the time of release. And if at first the sluggish petrol and diesel engines struggled to sell in the UK, it was upgraded in 1980 to 2.0- and 2.3-litre form. By then, every budding young executive wanted a Mercedes, particularly the iconic W123.

Favourite

The T-series estate version of the W123 was then released, with a surprising dash of glamour. It quickly became the favourite with gentry and antiques dealers, and to this day is the most practical W123. With space, comfort and dependability on its side, it deals with bumpy roads in a gentle, calm fashion thanks to soft, long travel suspension.

Longevity

These models were so good, they were still seen driving around the UK regularly up to a decade after they went off production. It also became a favourite back home, with Munich’s taxi drivers adopting the W123 for its ease of maintenance and simplicity. It’s for these reasons that the car ended up in Africa, namely Morocco where it can still be found today.

Global Fame

Many cameo appearances in primetime TV shows such as The Sweeney and The Professionals helped boost the W123’s appeal as the preferred wheels of villains. Even Arthur Daley drove one for a while in Minder. They can still be found around the UK, with a reported 3,500 models on the roads, and they are currently retailing at around £4,000 – a certain bargain for any Mercedes enthusiast.

Big Motoring World reviews 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d 4Matic

Coming on sale to the UK in autumn is the new Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d 4Matic. Big Motoring World reviews the German manufacturer’s answer to the BMW X6M.

The five-seat SUV comes with a 2.1-litre diesel engine, with models producing 168bhp and 201bhp. It will match the X6M both in length and boot size, and is equipped with the new nine-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. They each now come as standard with Mercedes, and as with the company’s larger models, a height-adjustable air suspension system is an optional add-on, which means that you can venture off-road.

Interior

The GLC’s interior is succinctly similar with the C-Class. The dashboard is smart and fashionable, whilst the front seats give good thigh support, even for taller individuals, with headroom and legroom in abundance. It’s easy to fold the backrests, and the boot is well proportioned while offering lots of under-floor storage.

Power

The GLC’s pulling power is extraordinary, and the engine sounds sublime on any surface. The nine-speed auto gearbox shifts with smooth precision and keeps the engine in its sweet spot with the right ratios. In the cabin, wind noise is well suppressed too which makes for pleasant motorway driving. The GLC comes with steel-sprung suspension and adaptive damping as standard.

Verdict

Overall, an exhilarating and comfortable ride fit for families and individuals looking to have fun on the road. It’s great on any surface, particularly long motorways where it is able to excel in comfort, convenience, style and speed.

Mercedes-Benz S600

Mercedes-Benz limo built like a tank

If the quality of a cars build of a cars appeal then Mercedes-Benz' latest S-Class variant could become one of the most desirable cars in the world.

This is because the S600 Guard is built like a tank, designed to protect important occupants from assault while riding in a luxurious cabin.

Combining luxury features with fortified bodywork and glass, the S600 will hit the streets as part of an armoured fleet for dignitaries and business owners.

The S600 is built from the ground up as a special model with armour plating throughout its body shell. Spaces between the car's structure and skin are filled with steel plates, while ballistic cloth and fabrics are used throughout the car’s interior.

The Mercedes is said to be effective protection against the threat posed by any sort of attacks, and that it meets the VR9 standard of protection, which means it should withstand fire from pistols and rifles, or shrapnel damage from grenades and other explosives.

The S-Class variant has an emergency air supply to shield occupants from smoke or gas that may build up in the car. The car also has a fire extinguisher system and panic alarm that could help in tricky situations.

This S600 will be hard to separate from other models in the range as it has the same lights and bumpers as other models. However, the wheels are a good giveaway, with tall run-flat tyres that should prove resistant to punctures and other hazards.

As with other S-Class models, owners can choose from a number of interior options that include reclining seats, business consoles and a comfort package that warms all surfaces passengers meet.

The S-Class is powered by a V12 engine, which will churn out plenty of bhp, though it is limited to 125mph and the weight of its armour should make for much slower acceleration than that offered by the regular S600 sedan.

Armoured rivals including the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Jaguar XJ will be key rivals for the S600. These cars are defiantly suited for wealthy people looking to splash some cash!

Germany do it again... Mercedes S65 AMG!

As much as we hate to admit it, I think we all knew that England’s chances of winning the World Cup were pretty thin and yesterday it all came to ahead with Germany coming out on top (congratulations by the way!).

But, Germany are on top for more reasons than one with the release of the Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe.

This car boats an impressive 630bhp (break horsepower) as well as a seven speed automatic gearbox!
There are three models available: efficiency, sport and manual. All of which have a 6.0 litter, twin turbo V12 engine that's capable of doing 0 – 62MPH in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 155MPH. I think you’ll agree that’s pretty impressive!

With the Mercedes S65 AMG sitting at the top of the S-Class tree we will be the first to say we can’t wait to get our hands on one and take it for a test drive!

What do you think of this rather remarkable machine? Let us know by  leaving a comment below, tweet us @BigMotoring or post on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BigMotoringWorld.

Where Mercedes began...

Mercedes-Benz is a German manufacturer of luxury cars who’s headquarters can be found in Stuttgart, Baden Wurttemberg, Germany.
Mercedes is a multinational division of the German manufacturer Daimler AG and not only manufacture cars. They also make buses, coaches and lager trucks/lorries.

Mercedes-Benz’s history can be traced back to Karl Benz and the creation of the first petrol car which was actually funded by his wife, Bertha Benz. The “automobile” was first marketed in 1901 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. The first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced in 1926, following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's companies into the Daimler-Benz company

Mercedes-Benz's slogan is "Das Beste oder nichts" which translates to: “The Best or Nothing” (apt we think)

Mercedes-Benz is part of the "German Big 3" luxury car makers, along with Audi
 and BMW
. These 3 manufactures are the three leading luxury car sellers and it just so happens that we stock all three. To browse what we have in stock click here
