Did you know?

Hello everyone,

Have you ever been abroad and noticed the cars registration plates? Apart from the obvious difference in layout both the front and back registration plates tend to be white. So why in the UK do we have a white plate on the front and a yellow plate on the back?

Well, here’s the answer:

It was made illegal in the UK to have a white light shining from the rear of a car. This law was amended with the introduction of reverse lights. This allows a white light to be shown alongside a red light to alert other drives of a backward moving vehicle.

Alongside this, white and yellow and the most contrasting colours, making the actual registration plates more visible and easier to read from a further distance!

So, now you know!

Your cars MOT may be changing

Hello all,

As of February 2014 the diesel particulate filter will become a port-of-call of every diesel cars MOT.

For those that are not too sure as to what a diesel particulate filter is; it's a filter that collects the soot released by the cars exhaust. This soot is then converted to ash that can be released into the atmosphere, causing very little damage! Diesel particulate filters have been used for over 20 years and help to ensure that cars meet the European emission standards.

Every diesel car is fitted with a DPF as standard. Some firms offer the service of removing the filer as they claim it will make the car better for the economy. This is not right and if the car is found without a filter the car will fail its MOT!

If you're not too sure about about anything have a look here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-rules-for-mot-to-test-for-diesel-particulate-filter or give us a call on: 01634 244 211.

The cold is starting to creep in

Hello all,

With the cold starting to creep in, scraping the ice off our car windscreen’s and windows is inevitable.

Nobody likes having to wake-up and leave the house ten minutes early to clear their screens of ice and we've heard of so many different ways of preventing ice form forming. From things like covering the windscreen with towels, using spray to stop ice forming to throwing hot water over the car in the morning to melt the ice.

Now, we want to know what you do to stop ice from forming or the quickest way to get rid of it? Drop us a comment below and let us know your tricks!

We’re almost there!

Hello bloggers,

We were quite keen on keeping you all updated on how the expansion of our West Malling site was going.

We are really excited to say that it is nearly ready to go! The finishing touches are being put in place as we speak, ready for the official opening mid-January.

As always, we wouldn't give you the news without a few sneak pictures. Here are a few snaps of our expansion just before its completion:

Take a seat on our comfy sofa in reception!

The photos below show the dedicate children's area. It's almost there, we just need to find lots of games to fill it up!

Here are our private rooms for customers to fill out their paperwork or discuss anything they want to. The desks will be arriving this week and we're ready to rock 'n' roll!

This area will be used for customer advice. When you come to buy a car but aren't too sure what you want, you can take a seat with one of our customer advisor's and they will help you along.

The new kitchen that's going in. We think it looks pretty swish (might need a bit of a tidy though!)

The new toilet is now finished. It is easily accessed by all and even has baby changing facilities!

This is the second kitchen upstairs- all ready to go.

This is one of the board rooms upstairs.

Below shows our new dedicated training room where all new staff members will be trained up.

Just in-case it's raining and you want to wander around site, grab an umbrella.

And here are two of our customer advisors looking rather happy!

Our West Malling site is scheduled for completion and opening mid-January. When it has officially opened you'll be the first to know.

Blue Monday!

Hello all,

Yesterday was dubbed blue Monday (despite it usually being the first Monday of the third week in January!)

With Christmas and New Year a (not so) distant memory, it’s back to work and school, not to mention the terrible weather we are having.

Blue Monday first cropped up in 2005 when a psychologist created a formula to calculate the most “depressing” day of the year.  The formula and explanation for which (that we can’t make heads or tails of) is below:

“where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year’s resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na. 'D' is not defined in the release, nor are units”

I think it’s safe to say that all of us weren't feeling very blue yesterday, but if you’re still feeling a tad on the blue side here is a picture that we hope puts the smile on your face!

Weather Warnings!

Hello Bloggers,

As you’re probably aware, the weather isn't the best and there are weather warnings being issued across the board- not the best way to start the New Year is it?

Kent is being issued with a weather warning for high-force winds and rain! We just wanted to say, drive carefully if you’re out and about and here are a few tips to help you get from A to B safely:

1)      Keep both hands on the wheel at all times- Keeping two hands on the steering wheel at all times will help you keep the car steady and counteract any gusts that push your car off course.

2)      If they get too close, fall back- I think we all do it, when we want to change lanes a see a gap that just might be big enough for our car we pull into it. In strong winds or with wet conditions, cars can be blown/thrown into your path. Stay alert and fall back, leave enough room for reaction time.

3)      Watch out for flying debris- There may be twigs, branches and loose litter in the roads that have blown off. If the wind is strong enough there could be all sorts blowing about on the roads. Drive at a slower, safer speed and keep your eyes peeled!

4)      Always carry a mobile phone- In-case there is an emergency, it is always wise to have a (fully charged) mobile phone to call for help.

Drive safe and have a great weekend!
