You may or may not know that as of yesterday the congestion charge
was raised to £11.50 a day!
The congestion charge was introduced in 2003 on the 17th
February. To this day it remains to be one of the biggest congestion charges in
the world. The charge was introduced to try and relieve some of the congestion
around the city centre with all of the charged monies going to London’s transport system. The reinvested money is used to improve Transport for London and its networks.
The congestion charge must be paid if you pass through the
congestion zone Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 and 18:00, although
there are a few exceptions for specific vehicles or individuals. Also, the charge does not apply on weekends, bank holidays or the period between Christmas Day and New Years!
If the charge is not paid you will receive a PCN and the fine could be anywhere between £65 and £195! (Probably best to just pay the £11.50).
