Big Motoring World Reviews 2015 BMW M6 Gran Coupe

The four-door BMW M6 Gran Coupe is the most powerful and luxurious car yet from the high-performance 'M' brand. It’s the second most expensive BMW in the range, sitting only behind the i8 supercar – Big Motoring World review why this gem is worth every penny.

Power

The Gran Coupe shares the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine seen in the M6 Convertible and Coupe models, but it promises to be even faster thanks to neat weight-saving measures. It’s equipped with a revised Competition Pack which takes the power up to a monstrous 592bhp, while torque is up to a cool 700NM. The 0-62mph sprint takes just a mere 4.2 seconds.

On the road

One of the Gran Coupe’s biggest strengths is how it handles on the road. The Active M Differential gives it superb agility and outstanding traction. It shuffles torque across the rear axle to the wheel which has the most grip, helping the car place its 592bhp and massive 7000Nm of torque on to the road.

Exterior styling

The M6 Gran Coupe represents the best of the brand’s style and luxury. The combination of its enhanced size and racy detailing give this revised model a real presence. New styling features include revised front and rear bumpers, a twin-spoke grille design, quad exhausts, bigger air intakes and stylish 20-inch alloys. Like the M6 Coupe, the Gran Coupe gets a carbon fibre roof to help reduce weight and lower it’s the centre of gravity. At nearly five metres long, it has a longer wheelbase than the Coupe but its overhangs are short and neat giving it an excitingly sporty finish.

Interior styling

The inside matches the class of its shell. Its wraparound dashboard is covered with soft-touch leather and carbon fibre weave, while the luxurious electric sports seats provide you with the perfect driving position. The steering wheel gives the car a touch of vintage – reportedly inspired by the 80’s Z1 roadster, and the frameless windows add to the racy feel. 2015 also sees the inclusion of an updated iDrive infotainment screen, heads up display and Merino leather across the cabin.

Practicality

With a longer wheelbase than previous models, the M6 has generous rear legroom, and the low roof doesn’t affect headroom. The 460-litre boot is deep enough to accommodate large suitcases and the rear seatbacks fold down to free up a maximum 1,265 litres of space.

BMW M6 Gran Coupe Stormtrooper Edition

While Alpine White continues to be one of the most popular exterior finish and we get a lot of builds featuring it, it never seems to get boring at all. Strasse Forged Wheels presents this build in an unusual way. Naming it Stormtrooper might be a bit unimaginative considering the recent builds we've shown here.

But the tuning project shown is just another great example how small contrasting details matched with an Alpine White exterior work well with a performance car like the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. That and a 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) acceleration done in 4.2 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) or with an M Driver’s Package that allows it to run up to 300 km/h, all have makings of a successful performance vehicle.
The M6 seen here is sitting on a set of Performance Series SV8 wheels measuring in 22×9.5 up front and a massive 22×11 in the rear. The SV8 wheels are finished with Gloss Black on the centers, Matte Black on the lips, and Matte Black on the barrels. This configuration also features the Chrome Fasteners and Weight Reduction Pocketing option. To further enhance the appeal of the BMW M6 GranCoupe, the owner chose to lower the M6 on H&R suspension to bring it closer to sitting atop this absolute gorgeous wheel configuration.

Additional exterior visual mods are IND paint reflectors, Carbon Fiber Grills, Side Markers, Mirror Housings, Matte Black M6 logos, a Vorsteiner carbon fiber front lip, BMW Carbon Fiber Performance spoiler and diffuser, and a Macht Schnell stud conversion kit.
Performance is increased with the addition of AMS catless down pipes and a Meisterschaft GTC full exhaust system with matte black 102mm tips for quite a boost in power and one unforgettable sound. The car now looks and sounds even better.

You can check out some detailed images of this build right down below in the gallery we added.

BMW M6 Gran Coupe in Java Green

BMW Abu Dhabi Motors has slowly become a source of inspiration for those looking to tune and modify their cars. Almost every week, the Middle East dealership is showcasing a new and exciting modified BMW, and this week makes no exception.
A BMW M6 Gran Coupe gets a special colour from the BMW Individual catalogue: it’s Java Green. The first Java Green BMW was unveiled in 2011 when the last 1M rolled of the production line in Leipzig and stood out with the striking tone of green.

But the BMW dealership hasn’t stopped at just painting the M6 Gran Coupe. They also fitted to the car a series of awesome performance accessories from German tuners Manhart and Kelleners Sport, starting with a modded bonnet featuring carbon fibre vents, then a new front splitter, rear spoiler and diffuser. For the extraverted appearance, a set of carbon fibre mirror caps and a carbon fibre roof were also thrown into the deal.
In the sound department, BMW Abu Dhabi reached out to Akrapovic for their sports exhaust system.
Inside, a BMW M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with racing display is included.
According to BMW Abu Dhabi Motors, the rear wheels are not powered by the standard 560 hp – instead the M6 Gran Coupe is outputting a whopping 765 hp. Who is responsible for the increase in performance and how is this achieved, unfortunately remains in the dark.
We all thing this lovely green colour BMW will stand out from the crowd and is a big time eye catcher. It’s different but looks the part. Take a look at the pictures below to see for yourself.

BMW M6 GT3 coming to Motorsport in 2016

BMW Motorsport will add a new chapter to its success story in GT racing in 2016. The BMW M6 GT3 will replace the BMW Z4 GT3, which has been in action since 2010. Development work on the new car is already in full swing. The first tests with the car, which is based in the BMW M6 Coupé, are planned for the first quarter of 2015.

Customers will be able to purchase the BMW M6 GT3 from the end of 2015, allowing them to compete in the 2016 BMW Sports Trophy with the new car. Orders will be accepted over the course of 2015. The exact date, from which orders can be placed, will be announced at a later date.
“For me, as BMW Motorsport Director, there are few things more exciting than the development of a completely new car like the BMW M6 GT3,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “This car’s properties make it predestined to succeed the BMW Z4 GT3. The BMW Z4 GT3 has enjoyed success around the world in recent years, and is very popular among our customers. We obviously want to follow on from this success with the BMW M6 GT3. After all, the target we have set ourselves is to provide our customers with the best possible material. We also want to demonstrate the high product substance of BMW M cars in motorsport with the BMW M6 GT3. We are all very excited to see it in action at the initial tests. One thing is certain from the first design sketches: this car is going to have the wow factor. It goes without saying that we will continue to offer BMW Z4 GT3 customers our full support, just as they have come to expect from us.”

The heart of the BMW M6 GT3 is the BMW M Twin Power Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine, which features a capacity of 4.4 litres. The engine is familiar from the production model and has been modified specifically for racing. The chassis is being optimised by hand for the specific demands of the racetrack in the BMW Motorsport workshop in Munich (DE). With regard to technology, the focus is on the use of extras that meet the very highest and latest standards in motorsport development, such as racing gearbox, racing ABS and racing electronics. Even now, BMW Motorsport is focussing on safety, reliability and affordable running costs, to ensure that our customers can enjoy successful motorsport at the highest level with the BMW M6 GT3, without the financial burden being too great.

BMW M6 Coupe

7.0 WowScore – This is the average score given by leading car publications from 7 reviews
Good points
·         Great performance
·         Impressive handling
·         Surprising economy
Bad points
·         Poor rear seat space
·         Expensive
·         Lacks drama

Reviews of the BMW M6 Coupe aren’t actually as positive as you might expect. It isn’t that it’s a bad car, more that testers are bemused by BMW’s cheek in offering what’s essentially a BMW M5 with a great deal less practically for a great deal more money.
You’re looking at a £20k premium for a car that isn’t notably faster than the M5, and that’s a bit hard to stomach. Get past that though, and you do get an insanely quick coupe with a truly great engine, even if this isn’t one of the great M cars.

Interior – The M6’s interior is at least different from the sombre 5 series from which it’s derived. The M6 gets a sculpted dashboard with a neat three-spoke sports steering wheel. This gets gearshift paddles for the seven-speed automatic transmission, and the lever sprouting from the centre tunnel can also be used to work the slick dual-clutch unit.

It’s very comfortable in the front of the cabin and the seats are great, while a splash of carbon fibre trim enlivens the dashboard. But as a coupe, it’s a long way from being as practical as the M5 saloon. The rear seats are “hopeless” according to one review, and if there’s one main criticism it’s that the M6’s cabin doesn’t feel any more special than “lesser” 6 series. There’s little rear clue you’re in a hardcore M model.

Driving – For a car weighing in a 1,850kg, the M6 does well. It has “amazing body control” when changing direction and “equally flop-free responses when you stick its tail sideways”, something that isn’t far away with all that power going to the rear tyres. It’s particularly effective when sportier chassis controls are dialled in, turning it from a wafting cruiser into something not unsuitable for the odd daddle on track.

It’s perhaps a little emotionless for an M car though. One review in particular is heavily critical of the car, saying “it doesn’t feel or sound alive”, and while scenery will pass you quickly outside the windows “sensation is lacking” – it’s a car that “doesn’t make you tingle”.
Engines – If the driving experience leaves some people cold, the engine is at least a bit hotter. It’s the same you’ll find in the M5 and in other M6 models like Gran Coupe – a 4.4-litre, V8, twin-turbocharged unit out 552 horsepower (or more, with the competition pack and 502 pounds-feet of torque.

It’s enough to clear the 0-60mph sprint in just 4.2 seconds (the competition pack is 0.1 seconds quicker) and like all BMW’s it headbutts the limiter at 115mph. You’ll get there very quickly – “effortless” is how one review describes the M6’s performance – is very strong, it’s also surprisingly civil. If anything, it’s “less explosive than the numbers might have you believe”.
Value for money –At £20,00 more than an M5, the M6’s price is off-putting for some testers. Worse still, the pricetag puts it within firing distance of some seriously desirable competition, including hotted-up versions of the Porsche 911, the Jaguar XKR-S, or high-end Maseratis. The M6 is reasonably economical for its type, but depreciation will sting – cars like this rarely hold their value very well.

BLACK SAPPHIRE BMW M6 AND VORSTEINER

Dark, twisted, clean and intimidating. That’s all a writer needs to describe this Black Sapphire BMW M6 with a Vorsteiner aero kit and wheels. When blacked out builds come to mind, this is unquestionably one of the hottest we’ve seen lately. It’s a subtle showcase of how well properly designed and manufactured aero parts look like, showcasing utterly perfect fitment and great design. The tuning project shown here is done by Turner Motorsports and features a set of Vorsteiner aero parts, like a front spoiler, rear diffuser and deck lip spoiler.

All these aero parts are made into their signature 2x2 carbon weave and created by using the autoclaved maufacturing and pre-prag carbon fiber layout. The parts are left with naked catrbon fiber showing, a great visual addition to the sapphire Black M6.

After adding a set of Special Edition Vosteinger forged monoblock VSE-003 Wheels, the build got that perfect final touch! The wheels shown here are finished in matte gunmetal accentuating perfectly the black exterior of the vehicle. For this build, the sizes used are 21x9.5 in the front and 21x11 in the rear respectively.
