BMW M235i and speedway bike drift for 5 hours

Last month, BMW aired up with four-times dirt-track world champion Karl Maier and his speedway bike to show us how a BMW M235i can drift for five straight hours.
The event took place at the Landshut/Ellermühle speedway stadium where a BMW M235i with M Performance Parts drifted onto the almost 400-metre-long track along with Maier and his dirt-track bike.
The BMW M235i M Performance is powered by a 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine developing 326 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), has a DIN vehicle weight of 1,470 kilograms and measures almost four-and-a-half metres in length.

The speedway motorcycle, meanwhile, has an air-cooled 500 cc single-cylinder engine, weighs 80 kg (as per speedway regulations), makes do with just a single gear and has no brakes. The specially designed methanol-fuelled machine produces up to 80 hp and has been built exclusively for speedway track use.
Both driver and rider succeeded in fulfilling a common goal: five hours of “sheer drifting pleasure” on the tightest of tracks.

And now we have a video featuring Maier who tells this exciting story:

How To Properly Drift A BMW M4

Matt Mullins, BMW Chief Driving Instructor at the BMW M School in Spartanburg takes the new BMW M4 Coupe around the Road America track and shows us how to properly drift the new M4 Coupe.

According to many BMW M engineers, the new M3 and M4 are some of the easiest and most fun vehicles to drift. Matt Mullins is also a stunt driver and former pilot so he’s bound to have fun on any track!
With Launch Control activated, the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe run the same distance in 3.9 seconds.

Join the drift...

The BMW M235i is the closest to the brands roots than any other model they have in terms of performance.

To demonstrate this, BMW took several of the cars out for a little spin. Casual strollers-by in Cape Town were shocked when a busy round-a-about was conned off by police before the red BMW’s started their drifting sequence.

The “drift mob show” (as it’s known by BMW) was done to demonstrate how easily (and safely) the BMW can be drifted around and it was done with a Hollywood film crew capturing every breath-taking moment.

Have you seen the video yet? If you haven’t, it’s not something you’d want to miss so have a look here and tell us what you think by leaving a comment below, tweet us @BigMotoring or post on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BigMotoringWorld.
