G11 7 Series


With all these latest BMW 7 Series spy photos popping up on the internet, it was clearly just a matter of time until rendering artists will revise their take on the new G11 7 Series.

The guys over at Autozeitung are taking a stab at trying to outline what the new BMW 7 Series would look like. Their three-quarter view of the car aims to show the sportier character of the G11/G12 platform with more muscular wheel arches, a streamlined and lightweight sideline. Also the front-end gets a more angular look with sleek LED headlights connecting with the oversize and upright kidney grille. The font bumper gets some interesting air curtains with floating fins.

Meanwhile the rendering might not be entirely accurate at the moment, they will certainly get better as we approach Spring 2015 when the camouflage will slowly starting to peel off and to tease us before its September unveil.

A new series of engines will also be made available for the G11/G12 7 Series models, from diesel to petrol and hybrids, in four, six and eight cylinders.

Petrol Engines - The new G11 and G12 models will use petrol engines with three different cylinder configurations: a four, six and the V8. The entry-level petrol, sold under 730i badge, will produce 260 horsepower from the new 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine.

The next petrol model is the 740i powered by a new 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine with an output of 330hp.

The powerful V8 Twin-turbo is the same unit as the one used in the current generation 750i and 750Li. So the power is expected to be around 460 horsepower.

The top petrol remains the 760Li and its V12 6.6 liter engine, that powers the Rolls Royce Ghost and Wraith, it will continue to produce 600 horsepower. However apparently it has a slightly better fuel consumption.

Diesel engine - The three or four diesels offered, all depends how you look at them (725d, 730d, 740d and 750d) will have a power range from 258 to 381 horsepower. However the entry-level diesels are said to be the most efficient engines ever seen with unprecedented low CO2 levels.

Plug-in Hybrids - Two plug-in hybrids, a 730e and 740e model, are rumored as well. The first would pair the electric drivetrain to a four cylinder engine (730e) while the second one to a more powerful six-cylinder (740e). The 730e is rumored to produce 275 horsepower with an average consumption of 2 liters per 100Km.

However both hybrid versions can run on pure electric mode at speeds up to 120Km/h, with a maximum range of 60 kilometers, which could increase to 100 kilometers in the most powerful hybrid version.
