The new 7 Series BMW is focusing on weight reduction by using lighter materials. This
means that this car will be made out of more exotic materials such as
aluminium, magnesium and carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).
This new 7
Series will take luxury-class standards to a new level, and not only in the
terms of comfort, but in the lightweight frame, and the driving dynamics of the
car.
The weight of
this new 7 Series sees the car lose over 200kg, which means that it now weighs
in at around 1650kg.
There are rumours
going around that not only are BMW producing a new 7 Series in the extra-long
wheel base model, but also making a short (G11) and long wheel base (G12) models
aswell. BMW will unveil the G11/G12 7 Series at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show in
Germany, which runs from the 17th-27th September 2015.
The new
extended model will be BMW’s response to the long-wheelbase, ultra-luxury
version of the next-generation Mercedes S-Class.
Looking further into the future
In 2016, the
BMW 7 Series will be available with a range of turbocharged four, six, eight
and 12-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. All of these engines will come with
a standard nine-speed automatic transmission and the option of rear or
four-wheel drive.
The Diesel
engine cars will include a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in a new entry-level model,
and a 3.0-litre straight six.
There are
rumours around BMW looking at creating a new M7 or M750i M Performance version
of the 7 Series in the future, around all the other models they are creating.
