2015 BMW X6 M Spotted in Donington Grey colour

The two new BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M come in two new colours, Long Beach Blue Metallic and Donington Grey Metallic. The blue was chosen as the launch colour for the X6 M while the beautiful grey shade was assigned to the X5 M.
Now for the first time, we have a chance to see the BMW X6 M in Donington Grey paint. The X6 M spotted here also comes with black wheels which add a nice contrast to the grey metallic.
The two M Utes made their debut last week at the 2014 LA Auto Show and will go on sale next year.

BMW says that over 10,000 kilometres were clocked around the Nurburgring with the two cars delivering performance equal or better with the E92 M3.
BMW X6 M project manager, Herbert Bayerl, said the 2,275 kg high-performance SUV can match the significantly lighter E92 M3 and its 1,700 kilos.
The two all-wheel drive Ms benefit from an updated V8 TwinTurbo engine delivering more horsepower and torque, as well as from a tuned up chassis, better and bigger brakes, and Michelin tires to match the performance of the car.
BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, is giving the X5 and X6 567 hp from 6,000 to 6,500 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque from 2,200 to 5,000 rpm. Those broad, flat torque plateaus helps the two M runs the 0–60 time of 4 seconds flat.

The 2015 BMW X5 M will be offered at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $99,650 and the 2015 BMW X6 M will start at $103,050, including $950 Destination and Handling.

Christmas Gift Ideas- BMW style

Are you struggling with what to buy friends and family this Christmas? Do they own a BMW? If they do then here we have the perfect Christmas list for you to take a look at:
BMW Natural Car Air Fresheners

Refreshing, stimulating and rich in variety, the BMW Natural Air collection of interior scents boasts three new additions and a redesigned holder. The holder comprises a matt black plastic carrier and a high-quality lid with a gleaming, anthracite-coloured metal look. The intensity of the scent can now be adjusted precisely via the ventilation grille or the holder’s variable apertures. The new Vitalizing Woods fragrance combines elegant woody notes with a zesty orange and subtle vanilla aroma.
Retrofit hi-fi system from ALPINE lays on a stunning audio experience.

The new hi-fi system from ALPINE Electronics developed especially for BMW takes the in-car audio experience to another new level. Key to its performance are high-quality components along with the fine-tuning of the overall system to the acoustic environment inside the car. Time correction for the individual channels produces a very natural soundstage that replicates a live performance – be it jazz, pop, rock or classical music. Rear passengers can also look forward to an outstanding audio experience thanks to DSP equalisation of the rear speakers. The chrome ALPINE logo on the tweeter grilles in the front door mirror triangles lend visual emphasis to the enhanced audio performance delivered by the ALPINE hi-fi system.
Innovative BMW Head-Up Screen makes driving safer.

Driving a car without the BMW Head-Up Display doesn’t mean missing out on the additional safety it provides. Indeed, the innovative new Head-Up Screen from the Original BMW Accessories range likewise allows navigation instructions and the latest vehicle information to be displayed in the driver’s field of view. The Head-Up Screen can be used in almost all BMW vehicles, workshop installation is quick and the cable used to connect it with the vehicle electronics is barely visible. It can also be retrofitted at any time. All the information can be viewed on the transparent display and is positioned directly in the driver’s line of sight. The information on the Head-Up Screen is very easy to read, even in direct sunlight, which means drivers no longer have to take their eyes off the traffic and can concentrate without interruption on events on the road. The result is an improvement in both safety and comfort at the wheel. The Head-Up Screen shows a range of vehicle information, such as the fuel gauge and – when the temperature drops – a warning of black ice. Other functions include an output display, torque display, cruise control display, the current speed limit, a traffic jam warning and the altitude above sea level.

Universal snap-in adapter for all current Apple iPhones.

The new Connect Universal snap-in adapter connects all Apple mobile phones with the car using a lightning adapter. All users have to do is hook up their iPhone, and the communications and entertainment content stored on it comes effortlessly alive inside their car. As well as charging the phone, the snap-in adapter also acts as a safe and secure holder with its built-in bracket. To stop the adapter and connecting cable getting in each other’s way, however, the bracket can be moved into various positions or removed altogether. The connection with the exterior aerial is via inductive coupling.
Specially designed travel set for Convertibles provides additional load capacity.

With its hardshell cabin-size trolley case and practical carry bag, the new and elegantly sporty Original BMW Travel Set enhances flexibility and provides extra load capacity for Convertible models. The Travel Set can be fixed to the rear seat quickly and easily using the seatbelt. The trick here is that the bags can be stacked on top of, as well as next to, one another – which even leaves a seat free for a rear passenger. And to protect the Travel Set from theft when the roof is open, it can be anchored to the seat belt using security locks. The robust and hard-wearing trolley case is light and easy to move around, thanks to its four rotating wheels and a telescopic handle with grip. The carry bag, meanwhile, has an adjustable inner partition and various pockets attached to the outside, ensuring items are stowed away tidily and can be quickly accessed. The printed BMW lettering and highlights provide a particularly elegant icing on the cake for the titanium-coloured trolley and carry bag.
Practical holder for Apple and Samsung tablets.

The BMW Travel & Comfort System family is part of the Original BMW Accessories range and includes a practical holder for Apple and Samsung tablets, which can be locked onto the base carrier system safely and effortlessly. It comes with a 360° rotating frame, which allows the rear passengers to turn the tablets horizontally or vertically, thus ensuring a full and comfortable user experience – both for office applications and for gaming, listening to music and watching films. In addition, the height and angle of the tablet holder can be adjusted by simply pivoting and tilting it. The familiar BMW design and impressive material and product quality of the BMW Travel & Comfort System tablet holder meet all safety stipulations governing in-car use and blend harmoniously into the interior of BMW models.
Tablet DVD system brings superb entertainment to the rear compartment.

The BMW Tablet DVD system lays on entertainment in the rear compartment – and not only for children over long journeys. With its chrome-coloured border, it fits in seamlessly with the BMW design language. The BMW Tablet DVD system comes with a pair of seven-inch colour screens, one of which contains an integrated DVD player. The accompanying holders allow quick and crash-safe attachment of the screens to the head restraint support bars. The Tablet DVD system offers numerous interfaces and connection ports for transferring data, as well as an integrated speaker, all of which makes this a fully-fledged mobile entertainment system for watching films, showing photos, and listening to music and audio books.
BMW Bluetooth headset enables user-friendly telephone calls on the move.

The new-generation BMW headset makes it even easier to make telephone calls during a journey. It connects easily with a mobile phone and can be operated using buttons, gestures or voice commands – the latter allowing the driver’s hands to remain on the steering wheel. As well as ensuring drivers can easily understand what their conversation partner is saying, the headset’s outstanding sound quality and ambient noise suppression also allow them to listen to music and audio books. The headset enables two devices – e.g. one private and one business phone – to be linked up to it. It can also be used outside the car, making it ideal for both work and leisure purposes.
BMW LED door sill plates for an illuminating experience.

The BMW LED door sill plates turn heads whenever you open the front doors. A white illuminating BMW badge, which is also easily visible during the day, catches the eye every time you climb on board. The badge is framed by high-quality metal with a brushed stainless steel look and creates an aura of class. The battery-powered LED door sill plates are extremely quick to fit due to the lack of cabling required. When the door is closed – or after 30 seconds – the illumination automatically switches off again. The two button cell batteries have a lifespan of approximately three years.
BMW touch-up paint stick set provides self-fix solutions for minor paint damage.

Small scratches and stone chip damage are annoying – and not always avoidable. In many cases, though, a BMW touch-up paint stick set can help, often allowing minor paint damage to be repaired by the owner and saving them a trip to the workshop. The set consists of a BMW base coat and clear coat, which means the two-coat structure of the original paintwork can be restored. In a practical feature, the brush for applying the paint is integrated directly into the screw-on cap.
Special care products for modern matt paint finishes.

Matt paint finishes are steadily growing in popularity. In order to provide sustained care for these special paint finishes and maintain their special effect over a long period, the Original BMW Accessories range contains products to clean and care for matt finishes. The selection of care products includes shampoo, special cleaner, special express wax and nano wax. All the products complement each other perfectly in terms of effect and provide the best possible protection for BMW matt paint finishes.

BMW i8 and 2 Series Coupe named 2015 AUTOMOBILE All-Star

Automobile Magazine names the BMW i8 and 2 Series Coupe on their AUTOMOBILE All-Star list. To keep thing simple, Automobile Mag says their All-Stars will be the only star cars and only new cars launched. No complicated criteria, no price caps, no categories.
Both the i8 and 2 Series Coupe made their debut this year, and while the 228i or M235i are widely available at U.S. dealerships, the hybrid sports car i8 remains sold out at most dealers.

Here is an excerpt from their review of the 2 Series
The 2 Series is BMW’s most intimate car, at least distantly related to the 2002 model, and it’s diminutive by today’s supersized standards. The 3.0-liter turbo is one of the sweetest engines made today, partly because it’s potent but not pretentious, and intensely responsive. Like the entire car, it’s not out to make a big statement. This car is for the true Bimmer believers or, better yet, the car to create a new crop of believers.
The BMW M235i is not a true-blue M model — gods willing, an M2 will arrive soon — but even the base 228i is a total blast. The engine and power are downsized (a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 240 hp), but the fun isn’t. Equipped with a manual, it weighs less than 3,300 pounds. It will teach you a lesson in rolling momentum, using the brakes only when necessary and negotiating the highest cornering speed while mitigating understeer. Any decent driver can go quickly with 600 hp and carbon-ceramic brakes; it takes old-school skills to do the same in a 2. The beauty is that you’ll murder heavier, high-horsepower cars in the corners.

In other words, it’s pretty hot stuff.
The specialness begins the second you duck below the swan-wing doors, cosy into luxurious chairs, and fire up the all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain: 129 electric horses for front wheels and a 228-hp, electrically assisted three-cylinder gasoline engine out back. Gentle driving lets the i8 cover roughly 22 miles on battery power alone. In our testing, it delivered up to 38 highway mpg.
Toggle up to Sport mode, and the BMW i8 replenishes its 7.1-kilowatt-hour battery on the fly — “fly” being the operative word, with the i8 surging from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. The i8’s yee-haw acceleration doesn’t seem to compute with 357 on-paper horses, until you consider the slender 3,455- pound curb weight, nitrous-like electric boost, and a ruthlessly effective six-speed automatic transmission.
With a long wheelbase, precise (if over light) steering, and an intimate GT-style cabin, the BMW is adept at both stoplight and weekend getaways. All-wheel-drive poise combines with surprisingly robust grip for a car with relatively narrow, fuel-saving 20-inch tires. Yet this hybrid saved some gas-electric fireworks for GingerMan Raceway, carving fluid laps and charming the pants off driver after driver.

BMW Frozen Paint Guidelines

In 2012, BMW released a video on caring for their factory matte, “Frozen” paint jobs. Such paint jobs are exclusive and very few BMW owners opt for them.
As you know, BMW released a press release explaining the proper way to care for this hot new paint…and much of the information is very good.
BMW have now reached out to the folks at Dr Beasley’s to tell them more about the frozen paint guidelines and how to deal with a matte paint.
Here they are:

  • Do not polish or wax the vehicle.
  • Do not use mechanical means of cleaning the surface.
  • Remove insect remains, tar and other residues immediately.
  • Always keep your paint protected.
  • Matte Rule #4 is arguably the single most important rule for matte car owners. I cannot stress enough the importance of protecting your paint, as that is the only way to preserve its factory no-shine look. Truth is, everything covered in Rule #3 becomes a whole lot easier when you protect your paint. Removing water stains gets easier, getting bird waste off your car gets easier, and most importantly, it all gets much less damaging to your paint when you have a protective barrier on top of your clear coat. And don’t worry… when you need to apply a matte final inspection spray to remove finger prints, dust spots and the like, that premium microfiber towel you’re using won’t be doing damage to the matte finish. There’s no silicone, no fillers, and no wax in the formulation. So there you have it… Protect your matte paint regularly with a no-shine, no wax, non-filling matte paint sealant specifically designed for the uniqueness of your paint.

In the video, they do a great job of telling you what you should know, but they don’t really tell you why. Guess you could say we are here to fill the gap and fill you in on the reasoning behind their statements. Here goes…
1.   BMW’s experts are exactly right, do not use polish or wax on your matte paint. Polishing, an abrasive process, is meant to smooth out the surface and level off imperfections. Problem is, matte paint appears flat because of imperfections in the clear coat layer. When you polish, you’re effectively diminishing your matte car’s ability to retain light. Similarly, waxing your car with any sort of paste or carnauba will fill those same imperfections, levelling the surface once more. Think about waxing over a tiny scratch on a “regular” car… when you wax over it, it will become less visible because light reflects more easily off of the less-imperfect surface. There you have it.

Matte Rule #1: Do not wax or polish.

2.   Somebody get a bell, BMW got another one right… do not use any mechanical or automated means of cleaning your matte paint. Basically it boils down to NEVER buffing your matte paint, and NEVER taking it to an automatic car wash. Any sort of high-speed (buffer) or repetitive motion (twirling brushes, dragging noodles, etc.) will cause harm to the matte finish. Always wash by hand with a pH balanced matte specific car wash soap.

Matte Rule #2: No mechanical means of cleaning.

3.   Call it a hat-trick, always remove insect remains, tar, sap, oil, overspray, bird poop, etc., etc., etc. from your paint immediately. This one’s super simple, but given their next claim, you’d think it’d be tough to do, but you’ll soon see it’s not as hard as it looks.
Matte Rule #3: Clean stuff off your paint immediately.

This last point is important, and it’s in response to some…questionable advice BMW gives in its video. Yes, some of the products they mention (microfiber, wax, sealants, and detail sprays) can damage your paint… unless you’ve done your homework. So what do we mean by homework? Well let’s start with microfibers. Microfiber towels are the absolutely safest towel to use on the market due to their absorbent, plush, and lint free characteristics. They don’t drag contaminants across the surface like a chamois or cotton towel, they don’t leave streaks, and their water retention is nothing short of admirable. That said, they can be damaging if there is an exposed seam coming in contact with the paint, or in the event that the towel is soiled – yes – any towel will do damage.

Next, applying any type of wax or sealant does pose the risk of damaging paint. Applying just about anything with a terry or microfiber applicator to a dry surface will microscopically harm your paint and cause minor surface scratches. For that very reason, BMW developed Matte Paint Sealant (liquid) which uses water – by leaving the car wet after washing – in the bonding process to create a long lasting, durable layer of protection against the effects of dust, debris, contaminants, and more. Any protection product using silicones, waxes, paste, or carnauba to any extent will either increase the gloss rating of your matte finish or do damage to the clear coat.
Lastly, final inspection type products usually use microfiber towels, and as I stated before, if you have a cheap microfiber towel, you’re probably going to do a bit of damage. Other than that, the only damage a traditional detail spray would do to your paint is leave a shine – typically most final inspection sprays use large amounts of fillers and silicones to leave a “normal” car with a deeper shine.

Has BMW Been Catching Up To Tesla In The EV Sector?

It is very rare when one can say BMW needs to catch up to someone in the automotive segment, but when it comes to the electric vehicles market, that statement might be valid. BMW is new at the EV game where companies like Tesla Motors have been at the forefront of this for years and have opened the doors for other automakers as well. Often seen as competitors, truth is that Tesla is not only helping BMW, but the entire industry of electric vehicles.
Tesla has been providing the upper-mid class of car owners the green solution they need with the Model S which was launched back in 2012. Only a handful of Model S units were sold that year, but that was followed by 22,000 deliveries in 2013. This year, Tesla Motors are now looking into delivering more than 33,000 cars.

On the other hand, BMW has not yet ventured in developing a luxury sedan powered only by electric motors, but it has still managed to put out the high-performer BMW i8, and the great, small and nimble BMW i3. Especially the latter one is selling in respectable numbers.
According to green energy website CleanTechnica, it seems that over the past three months sales for BMW’s fully electric i3 accounted for 4.9% of its total US sales – which is the highest share of total sales among all the car manufacturers that don’t strictly sell electric cars. What’s more important, the high share means an overall shift to the electric car technology as well.
For the first three months after its launch, the mid-range electric city car only made up 2.3% of BMW’s total U.S. sales, so the latest sales report show a healthy increase in overall sales and demand.
It was also reported earlier that the BMW i3 had outsold Tesla’s Model S in August. Sales for BMW i3 in the month totaled 1,025 units, a nice increase of 182% sequentially, while Tesla Model S sales came at 600 units, which is  54% lower over the same period last year.
While not competing directly now, the two automakers are on a collision path within the next 2-3 years. While BMW has their own share of sedan hybrid vehicles, a fully electric powered mid-range sedan has yet to arrive. The BMW i5 might be the solution.

On the other hand, Tesla Motors has yet to venture into the small city car electric vehicle product range, meaning the American automaker still relies mostly on the Model S for the time being. A 3 Series electric competitor is in works though and will arrive in 2017.
During a shareholder meeting in April, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said, “We can produce something like the i3 or better than i3 right now, but it wouldn’t be great. It wouldn’t be amazing.”
While BMW has been catching up to the Tesla Motors in terms of electric vehicles, overall sales of vehicles in general is still very much on BMW’s side of the fence.
Both automakers need a subtle transition into different market; Tesla, on one hand, needs to expand its product range accordingly, while BMW needs to improve the i3 in the next iteration and also deliver new electric vehicles to the masses.
Sales and demand for the BMW i3 and BMW i8, and the Tesla Model S show that the electric vehicles market is ready and future, diversified products will cater to new demographics therefore increasing their market share.

The two companies are certainly at the forefront of the electric vehicles revolution, and both are also disrupting other industries as well. BMW is heavily invested in the production of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), while Tesla is building their own battery factory.

BMW i Remote App a winner in the CES Innovation Awards 2015

Ahead of the 2015 CES in Las Vegas, New York City hosted the CES Innovation Awards ceremony where 20 product categories announced their winners.
This year, in the “Software and Mobile Apps” category, the BMW i Remote App for the Samsung Gear smartwatch took the top prize. Selecting the winning submissions are teams of judges made up of independent industrial designers, engineers and media representatives. The “Software and Mobile Apps” category is guided by criteria such as functionality, aesthetic appeal, user-friendliness and innovative edge.

The BMW i Remote App for the Samsung Gear S smartwatch is an application which seamlessly connects BMW i drivers to their vehicle via their wristwatch. The app was developed to allow direct access to important information in real time. The app displays all key information at a glance on the smartwatch’s home screen: in the case of the BMW i3, for example, it shows not only the time but also the electric range available, the battery charge level and – during the charge process – the estimated charge time remaining.
Using the touch display to click on the data sent to the Gear S by the BMW i Remote App opens a submenu with more detailed information presented in the typically classy colours and style of BMW i. A further submenu informs the user of the vehicle’s current status, i.e. whether any of the doors, windows or the boot are open.

Advance regulation of the onboard climate, which can likewise be controlled by the Samsung Gear S, is an important factor in extending the car’s range. In this way, the interior can be conveniently preheated while the vehicle is still connected to the power supply. This does not affect the charging process.

Next on the table for BMW is the integration of BMW i apps with Apple’s upcoming smartwatches. A preview was offered by Tim Cook back in September.
